Our vision is that no patients, taken care of by non-profit organizations, should be disqualified for medical care, due to lack of the necessary expertise, equipment and care, without undergoing an additional, thorough re-examination by a specialized equipped medical expert team.
September 2017, 4 months after 1st surgury

With specialized equipment and a specialized medical expert team, The Second Chance Medical Program is giving patients, previously cancelled from anaesthesia and surgery by other non-profit surgical organizations, a thorough re-examination and in most of the cases their needed surgery. The Second Chance Medical Program is also offering education and clinical training for local staff and volunteers as well as long term follow-up of patients operated in spite of clinical challenges.
WHAT WE
ARE DOING

Second Chance Medical is an international non-profit organization designed to give patients and families new hope, when pre-existing medical conditions disqualifies them for anaesthesia and surgery under other surgical organizations programs’ standards. For patients, Second Chance Medical means, at the very least, a thorough re-examination by medical experts, and, in most of the cases, a surgery which is necessary to change their lives.
WHo we are
On medical missions arranged by non-profit organizations in low-income countries, patients are disqualified from anaesthesia and surgery due to previous medical conditions, lack of necessary perioperative expertise, medical facilities and equipment. These disqualifying decisions are adequate and taken after qualified medical assessments since it would be associated with excessive risks operating these patients under the configuration of traditional medical missions. Unfortunately, this means that these patients, in most of the cases, never will get the help and surgery they need. They get categorized as “NOT A CANDIDATE” not only for the mission, but unfortunately in most cases also for life.

WHY WE ARE NEEDED
RESULTS:

9 out of 10

Children have been cleared for
Anaesthesia and Surgery and
successfully OPERATED on.
Hundreds of children previously denied anaesthesia and surgery due to their medical condition, lack of the necessary medical competence and resources, have been re-examined by The Second Chance Medical Program over the last few years. Over 90% of these children were cleared for anaesthesia and surgery, and a successful operation was performed. For 9 out of 10 children a NO has turned into a YES, and they have received their much needed life changing surgery.
